Dear fellow Citizens of Regina,

Of all the various idiotic and duplicitous policies the City of Regina has enacted, or enforced, this one ranks right up there.

Chad Moats has made a post on The Saskatchewan Citizens Federation blog about a situation that requires more than just arguments, debate, finger pointing, and blogging.

Here is the general gist of the situation. A resident and fellow Taxpayer of the City of Regina has had a bad run recently. He has fallen behind with his City Taxes, and there is a strong possibility that the City will seize the property, evict the owner, and sell the home to recoup back taxes.

Now, the owner of the property has made some payment of back taxes, and has written a letter to City Hall. The citizen is asking for the same treatment afforded to a Professional Sports Team and certain Corporate Citizens, namely, that some of the taxes (mostly penalties) be forgiven. That request has been denied.

See letter here

Now, Chad has pulled a couple other documents where certain citizens (corporate) have received tax breaks, tax reductions, or even NO TAX.

See document here

and here.

The owner of the Property has made a good argument, and I'm buying it! Yes folks, I agree with Mr. Loucks, if ONE gets a break, we should ALL get a break.

Now, I've said my piece over in the comment's area on Chad's contribution to the blog, and others have said theirs. But talking about the problem, pointing fingers, debating, and blogging about it, isn't going to do squat to help our distressed citizen, is it?

It's time for action!

What if we Citizens make a statement LOUD and CLEAR to ALL the candidates and ALL the folks at City Hall. Let's tell City Hall that it is time to....

STOP THE DUPLICITY!

Here is what I want each and every one of you to do:

  • * If you agree with me, send a short note to City Hall that says 'I agree with Citizen Wilson and I'm helping pay the taxes on 908 Princess Street!' and include a few bucks towards paying our fellow Citizen's tax bill.
  • * If you don't agree with me, send a short note to City Hall that says 'I'm helping pay the taxes on 908 Princess Street!' and include a few bucks to help our fellow citizen keep his house.

Here is the address to send your envelope:

P.O. Box 1790
2476 Victoria Avenue
Regina, Saskatchewan
S4P 3C8

or feel free to drop it in the After Hours Payment Slot at City Hall.

Chad, Citizen Wilson will be sending an envelope addressed to you with a contribution to go towards paying the outstanding taxes. I trust you will acknowledge when it arrives on the Citizens Federation Blog, and I know you will forward it onto proper authorities at City Hall.
