The blogosphere is alive with debate. Check out Thinkthenact.com, or Citizen's Federation, the left leaning Act up in Sask. Even the Coalition is ramping up, posting bits and pieces here and there. Mayor Pat came late to the party with his web site. The mailbox is stuffed with flyers from campaigners. Heck, one can barely get a butt back on the couch before the doorbell rings again with another door to door campaign. Left and Right are clearly entrenched in their stances, and both seem to revel in "You are either with us, or against us!' With all the name-calling and mudslinging going on, Citizen Wilson is beginning to suspect that perhaps the entire campaign strategy is: baffle the public with rhetoric and half truths. Through it all.....nobody has said... JUST WHAT THEY WILL DO! Mayor Pat stands on his record, while Jim Holmes sticks to his stance that he's not Pat. In fact, Jim and his followers are so drawn into their own rhetoric; they are beginning to believe that one candidate showing up constitutes a debate (click here). The CCFR is delusional thinking that revealing campaign backers and funding is an election issue. The only ones who really WANT to make it an issue is the CCFR themselves, and their continued insistence that it IS a campaign issue reminds me of the Coffee Crisp dude attempting to impress the importance of the opinions of 'Them' and 'They' to his kids (see below, press play). Just because you say it, doesn't make it a saying, Jim. Where is the beef? 'The Choice is Clear', 'Time for a change'...bla bla bla. Talk is so cheap. Recently, I was commenting on one of the Candidates for City Council's blog about an issue he was trying to bring forward. While the candidate expounds his opinions, ideas, or who is to blame.... actions seems to be beyond him! While Citizen Wilson sent some money and encouraged others to do the same, the Candidate is worried how he may be perceived ACTUALLY HELPING A CITIZEN! "Thank you for your concern over Mr. Loucks' plight, it Chad, here is my return address: P.O. Box 1790 Yeah, put my cash and my letter in envelope and send it in. I trust you to do it. Nobody has to know that it was you (or an assistant) who mailed it. And Chad, while on some issues we may agree, on others, we disagree. I applaud you and some of your efforts (but don't consider this a full endorsement of you and your campaign) and while I think that your heart is in the right place, listening to others advice will slow down reaction time, and may even prevent you from actually DOING something. Sitting as a Councilor means you will have to be a leader. Being a leader means YOU have to make decisions, it may even mean YOU have to DO something from time to time, or motivate others to DO it for/with you. There is NO TIME to consult with others, and further more, the voters are electing YOU to do a job...not your board of advisors. Learn to be a leader and make your own decisions, PLEASE. There is a couple more weeks left until we citizens go to the polls and decide who will represent us. The citizens of Regina deserve to know what each of the candidates will do, and what their plans are, IN DETAIL. Let's hope that such information comes out in the near future, and that we citizens of Regina elect folks who will actually DO SOMETHING!
